Assessment

After completing the catechism class, catechumens may be given a written assessment to test their understanding of the Christian faith.

Pastors may also conduct an interview with candidates for baptism/church membership (e.g., over coffee or lunch) to help discern their spiritual condition. The pastor may ask questions such as these:

  1. Have you confessed your sins to God?
  2. Are you sorry for your sins, and do you intend to obey God from this point forward?
  3. Are you trusting in Christ right now for your salvation?
  4. Are you committed to learning and obeying everything that Christ commanded?
  5. Are you willing to be mentored and held accountable on your discipleship journey?
  6. Can we count on you to be a faithful member of the church?
  7. Will you submit to the leaders of the church as they faithfully govern and direct you by God’s Word?

The Baptismal Covenant and the rite for Holy Baptism may also be reviewed during this meeting.
